Following the recent controversy surrounding Helldivers 2 requiring a PSN account to play online, which effectively barred players from enjoying the game in more than 100 countries, it seems the publisher isn’t learning its lesson. Does Ghost of Tsushima require a PSN account to play online?
Do You Need a PSN Account to Play Ghost of Tsushima?
If you wish to play Ghost of Tsushima online, you require a PSN account. The game features numerous multiplayer game modes, specifically a few focusing on cooperative gameplay and one featuring PvP. If you intend to enjoy the game to its fullest and get your money’s worth, then Sony wants you to sign up for their network.
Unfortunately, the same problem arises as with Helldivers 2. PSN isn’t available in all countries. In fact, nearly 200 countries cannot sign up for PSN, which means they can’t enjoy Ghost of Tsushima’s online components.

Can You Play Single-Player in Ghost of Tsushima Without PSN?
Thankfully, you can play through the entirety of the single-player campaign in Ghost of Tsushima without every sign-in to a PlayStation Network account. But if you want to enjoy the game’s cooperative or multiplayer modes, you’ll need an account.
For many, it’s not an issue. They’re playing Ghost of Tsushima for its open-world story, not so much for the PvEvP game mode. Some feel it’s tacked on. Others, however, only want a single-player experience. But for those who do enjoy the game’s multiplayer sword-clashing fights, it’s a no-go without a PSN account, unfortunately.
