While I’m a massive fan of Diablo 4 in general, as it’s my go-to comfort game after a long day, I find many of the story’s quests bland and uninspired. This is one of them. Here’s what to do with the Holy Cedar Tablets in Diablo 4.
What to Write on the Holy Cedar Tablets in Diablo 4
As part of the game’s prologue, upon meeting Lorath and visiting the game’s central city of Kyovashad, you’re stopped by a guard at the checkpoint to the bridge into the city center. They ask you to inscribe your deepest sin on one of the Holy Cedar Tablets at the shrine to the left of the bridge. You’ll choose one of the options, then toss the stick into the flames to “cleanse” yourself before entering the kingdom of man.
You have a few options as to which sin you may select for “Rite of Passage.” But does it matter which sin you choose in Diablo 4? Here’s what you can inscribe in the wood:
- Fear
- Anger
- Pride
- Greed
Alternatively, you can follow Lorath’s noncommittal approach and choose to scribble gibberish into the wood before tossing it into the cleansing flames. It’s up to you!

Do Your Choices Matter in Diablo 4?
You can sit and think over which sin to write on the cedar tablets in Diablo 4, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. No matter which inscription you choose, whether you opt for “Greed” or “Pride,” the result is the same.
In fact, there is no end result whatsoever. Your choice does not alter the gameplay or story one ounce, so this little introduction to the game’s central city feels more like unnecessary filler than anything else, unfortunately.
