There’s a rule in DayZ. Just because you survived a tough battle doesn’t mean things will be okay now. If hostile players and infected don’t finish you, disease and other lingering effects will. In this article, we will discuss how to treat wounds and afflictions in DayZ.
DISEASE

Here is a list of the diseases and their cures.
- Cholera – The result of drinking water in the wild, like from ponds and lakes or untreated bottled water. Tetracycline is suitable for cholera. Untreated water can be purified with chlorine tablets.
- Food poisoning – Done by eating uncooked or rotten food or eating with dirty hands. Charcoal tablets are an excellent way to treat food poisoning. Players should focus on consuming cooked or processed food while maintaining hygiene.
- Cold – Low temperature can result in your character getting the common cold. It can also be contracted by interacting with characters infected with the cold, including using their food and items. Tetracycline pills also work here. Maintain a suitable body temperature, wear dry clothes, and avoid sick survivors.
- Flu – Characters can contract influenza if the common cold sickness is untreated. Tetracycline will kill the infection. The same prevention rules apply.
- Infected wound – Commonly, the result of healing without a clean health item. Tetracycline to fight the infection. To prevent it, disinfect all health items. Sterilized items are labelled so once combined with a disinfectant.
Depending on the disease and its severity, players will experience symptoms like:
- Blurred vision
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Vomiting
- Shaking
- Body pains leading to groans
Vomiting drains food stats, leading to a slow health drain. The vomiting symptom reduces your character’s capacity for food. When experiencing vomiting, it is a good idea to consume only a tiny bit of food and water at a time.
Avoid eating human flesh. Human flesh can lead to the prion disease, which causes your character to have verbal ticks, making stealth more difficult. There is no cure.
CUTS AND BLOOD LOSS

Cuts are the most common injury. Depending on the location and severity, it can result in minor, moderate, or severe blood loss. Blood loss will lead to unconsciousness and eventually death. To stop bleeding, equip and use bandages, rags, or a sewing kit.
To prevent infection, players should disinfect their health items with alcohol tincture, iodine tincture, or a disinfectant spray. Staunching the bleeding will take some time. Make sure you’re away from danger when you start bandaging.
As your character loses blood, the color will drain. This will make it harder to spot enemies. Being healthy and fed will result in blood regenerating at a slow pace. To speed up the process, players should use saline solution. Combining a saline bag with an IV start kit is a usable saline solution. Using saline solution will not only boost your character’s blood regeneration but will also increase their hydration.
Alternatively, players can receive blood from allies. However, a successful blood transfusion requires the recipient and donor to have compatible blood types. Otherwise, the recipient will suffer a hemolytic reaction. To determine blood type, use a blood test kit. Use the table below as a reference.

The donor must use a blood collection kit. Once the blood bag is full, combine it with an IV start kit. Once that is done, give the bag to a compatible recipient. Alternatively, players can store their blood or the compatible blood of foes for later use.
PAIN AND BROKEN LIMBS

Your health influences your character’s movement. The more injured you are, the slower you’ll move and the easier you’ll be to pick off. Besides medicine to treat illness, DayZ has drug items that’ll help you mitigate some of the effects of low health. Fractures, like a broken leg, further limit movement.
Codeine – The most common pain relief in DayZ. It will alleviate a small amount of pain for a short duration, allowing players to regain some of their mobility. It can be used several times.
Morphine Auto-Injector – A morphine pen. Very rare. Using it will reduce shock and pain, allowing players to move normally. It has an incredibly short duration and is single-use. It is best utilized after fights so injured players can escape danger.
Epinephrine Auto-Injector – A pen of adrenaline solution. It is used to revive unconscious players. Using it on yourself will provide you with unlimited sprint for a short duration. Like the Morphine Auto-Injector, it is a single-use item and is very rare.
Splint – A splint is necessary to treat the fracture damage type. Players with a splint can’t sprint or jump. To craft splints, combine short sticks with either rags or bandages.
Players should also take vitamin tablets to boost their immune systems. Vitamin tablets work in tandem with any medicine consumed, greatly increasing recovery rates.
WHERE TO FIND HEALTH ITEMS

Bandages are helpful for closing wounds, but players have other alternatives: rags and sewing kits.
Rags are a popular alternative. They are crafted by combining a piece of clothing with a blade. Sewing kits are used to repair clothing and backpacks but can also be used to stitch wounds. Clothes and sewing kits are most commonly found in households. Rags can also craft primitive clothing, like face masks and gloves.
Bandages are commonly found in hospitals, clinics, and army bases. The same logic applies to medicines and drugs. Medicines are most abundant in army bases located on the mainland.
