While I typically play more single-player games than multiplayer, something about the survival crafting genre begs for co-op. It’s more fun to survive when you’re not entirely hopelessly alone, right? So, does Dawn of Defiance have multiplayer?
Does Dawn of Defiance Have Co-op?
On launch, Dawn of Defiance supports multiplayer in the form of four-player co-op via player-hosted servers. In their official FAQ, developer Traega Entertainment stated that while you could technically play with more than four people per server, it’s not recommended. For instance, the game’s performance will tank if you attempt six, ten, or twelve players. It’s designed with four in mind.
If you want to test out the game and your rig with more, you can alter the server settings to allow for additional players. What happens is on you, however!

Is Dawn of Defiance PvP?
We gather that Dawn of Defiance is built as a cooperative survival experience without PvP elements. You won’t craft a sword to slash apart your teammates in a frenzy. Instead, you’ll use that sword to help your party overcome challenges, for which you’ll all receive rewards upon completion. It’s a fantastic way to implement cooperative gameplay.
That said, there may be a server setting that allows for player damage, meaning you could technically build an arena and force other players into one-on-one combat if you wish. We’ll have to see what’s available on launch day!
