In Star Wars Outlaws, you play Kay Vess, a young female outlaw hailing from Cantonica. She’s an adept thief on the run from the Galactic Empire—an oppressive force, in her opinion—alongside a band of merry thieves firmly entrenched in the universe’s underworld.
Unfortunately, depending on your outlook, you cannot play as a different character in Star Wars Outlaws. You will always play Kay Vess. It’s her tale. As a third-person game, this irks many people who want to place themselves in the shoes of a cunning thief exploring the galaxy. I understand, but not every video should or must offer character creation. Some can tell stories, and that’s perfectly okay.
That said, you will have a chance to customize Kay Vess to some extent. That fact should be a small concession to those who want greater control over their characters, even in a story-driven game.
Star Wars Outlaws will feature unique outfits, likely many through an in-game store via microtransactions, to customize your version of Kay Vess to suit your style and preferences.

Can You Be a Male in Star Wars Outlaws?
As you solely play as Kay Vess—a female human—and the game does not offer character creation, you cannot play as a male in Star Wars Outlaws.
While we’re the players controlling the character, this is Kay Vess’ story. It’s her tale as she ventures across the galaxy, dealing with cutthroats, Imperial Agents, and other ne’er do wells. We’re just along for the ride!
