Throughout the gameplay reveals and marketing materials, ASKA showcased its female character, the titular Aska, and showed little of its male counterpart. Like many of you, I don’t mind playing as a female, but I’d prefer a male character if the option is available. So, can you play as a male in ASKA?
Does ASKA Have Male Playable Characters?
Yes! When you start a new game from the main menu, you can select your character. You can choose either Aska (Female) or Ragnar (Male); thankfully, they both feature high-quality models.
It’s all down to personal preference. If you’d like to experience the game as the developer intends, go ahead and play as Aska. There’s nothing wrong with playing as a female character occasionally. But since the option is there, playing as Ragnar is viable, too.

Can You Customize Your Character in ASKA?
You have a relatively small number of options available in the character customization screen, including a few presets that don’t appear to work at the moment. They make your hair jiggle, and that’s all.
Elsewhere, you can change your:
- Facial Features
- Hair Style
- Hair Color
- Eye Color
- Tattoo Style
- Tattoo Color
- Skin Color
It’s pretty rudimentary, but of course, the whole point of ASKA isn’t fashion. It’s survival and building up a tribe of cutthroat Vikings to rule the land!
