Bloodlines 2 Reviews Paint a Bleak Picture for the World of Darkness

Like many of you, I’ve been eyeing the launch of Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 for years now, following its numerous delays and reveals. To say I’m disappointed by the game’s reception and how it turned out after all this time would be an understatement, though. Let’s take a look at a few of the Bloodlines 2 reviews to see what people think of the action RPG!

What Do the Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 Reviews Have to Say?

User Transmental Me, who rated the game negatively, said:

Brian Mitsoda, HSL, and quite frankly all of us, deserved better than this…

This is not Bloodlines 2, this is Vampire: Seattle preying upon the Bloodlines name, Hardsuit Labs, and Brian Mitsoda. There are no weapons except a lame telekenesis mechanic, there is no INVENTORY, no RPG, just a skill tree and the cheesiest most ridiculous chopped down gameplay loop of an Elder power fantasy that nobody asked to experience.

The game you wish this was?

It got quiet cancelled years ago by some Ventrue suit in a tower who didn’t give a crap about any of us because people clowned on the pre-alpha footage of the melee combat? Because they needed bug fixes and more time to polish? Now ALL WE GOT IS MELEE COMBAT AND A BAD STORY.

Conversely, user Samael rated the game positively and said:

After almost 7 hours straight, here’s where I’m at.

I went in expecting a full RPG because of the Vampire: The Masquerade/Bloodlines name. This one isn’t focused on being an RPG, and I get why that disappoints some people. There’s no traditional inventory and you can’t equip weapons. I’m fine with a predefined protagonist and with the game leaning toward a Dishonored-style immersive action experience with a modest open world, but not being able to equip even a basic weapon feels like a miss for the franchise. That said, it doesn’t make it a bad game.

What keeps me playing are the powers and the mobility. Moving around Seattle is genuinely fun. Starting on Hard can feel anticlimactic, though; for a 400-year-old vampire, getting smacked by basic ghouls early on stings until you learn the rhythm.

How Many Players Does Bloodlines 2 Have?

Following the game’s launch on October 21, Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 has achieved a modest 27,000 total players at its all-time peak on Steam. At the time of this writing, the first-person adventure game is sitting comfortably at 12,000 players with a 17,000-player 24-hour peak.

It’s certainly not hurting for numbers, but it’s also not nearly as popular as what we were expecting to see from the franchise.
