007 First Light Designed With Choice at Its Core, Says Director

You know, I honestly couldn’t believe it when I initially heard IO Interactive was working on a James Bond video game. After all, their previous major project, Hitman, is a niche title designed for a very specific type of player. Could James Bond work with the IO formula? As we’ve seen from recent gameplay, yeah, it can. But more importantly, IO is approaching this project with care. According to the Game Director, 007 First Light is designed from the ground up with player choice at its core!

Speaking with Game Informer, Gameplay Director Andreas Krogh said:

We try to strive for a way to give choice to the player.

Two NPCs are in front of you, what do you do? And there you have choice: do I go around them, do I distract them, do I take them out?

Showing you new options all the time because you did something will kind of drive you towards that option which we then try to always make you go forward basically in any given encounter.

In the interview, Krogh explained that the team at IO Interactive is designing 007 First Light with levels that offer multiple paths and choices. Alongside its level design, the array of gadgets and combat possibilities open up additional routes through a mission, making it highly replayable.

007 First Light is out on May 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
